Mwanawa is a Flint native and 2009 graduate from Western Michigan University with MA in Counseling. She carries a Bachelors in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement also from Western Michigan University. She has a background in mental health working with the severely and persistently mentally ill. Mwanawa has worked extensively with children ranging from birth to 17-years-old in day care, as an educator, substitute teacher, foster care worker, crisis interventionist, case manager, therapist, and parent. Mwanawa has worked with adults as an Assertive Community Treatment Specialist (ACT), case manager, and crisis interventionist in Washtenaw County. She has experience implementing TF-CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy and Talk therapy. Mwanawa has implemented Play Therapy and Narrative Therapy techniques.
